In an interview with his band, Billy Bob Thornton told all the wrong things. He called Canadians potatoes without gravy. Turns out he had told the interviewer beforehand not to mention his acting career and the interviewers mentioned it in the introduction, which looked like it bothered him. He was dismissive during the interview and told all wrong things.

Thornton seems to be in denial about his acting fame helping his band get popular faster than it would have otherwise. The interviewer, Ghomeshi remained very professional and finally got him talking a little. When he did start talking he called the Canadian audience boring.

“Canadian audiences seem to be really reserved,” he said. You know, we tend to play places where people throw things at each other and here they just sort of sit there. It doesn’t matter what you say to ‘em… it’s very um, well, it’s mashed potatoes with no gravy, you know what I’m saying.”

When he performed in Toronto, instead of apologizing for what he has said, he called Ghomeshi an asshole and said that he was referring to him when he said potatoes without gravy. At this, the crowd started booing as they knew he was trying to cover up what he had said. He is only digging a deeper hole by denying the whole thing and I think it would have gone a lot better if he had just apologized. Ghomeshi could not be reached for comment.
