After a verbal fight and a little physical altercation between some photographers and the ‘Everybody loves Raymond’ star, Brad Garrett, the photographers started saying something in a language other than English. The actor asked to be addressed in English when he was unable to understand what they were saying. It was then that Brad Garrett started yelling ‘Wear the turban! Wear a turban!’ repeatedly at them. The photographers were following him on foot in Los Angeles when this happened.
A person from the American- Arab Anti- Discrimination Committee, Nawar W. Shora reacted to the incident by saying, “We’d be happy to reach out to Mr. Garrett and his crew to help educate him about the Arab/Muslim/Sikh communities. Sinking down to racial and ethnic slurs is very disappointing and highlights the need for a greater understanding.”
Brad Garrett has a history of saying offensive things. Back in 2007, he offended the African American community by telling a photographer, “I didn’t know there were blacks in Malibu.” And the very next evening he seemed to be on a roll and asked another black man, “When did they let you out?”, implying blacks are all criminals.
It looks like not everybody loves Garrett now. His reps haven’t commented on the incident yet. And it does look like the photographers were trying to provoke him into saying something offensive given his history. He wasn’t doing something phenomenal walking down the street that needed to be reported.
