Cameron Diaz believes that women feel the need to have children in order to avoid ‘being shunned’ by society, but that she will not succumb to such social pressures.
“I never say never. I don’t know what’s going to happen,” the single star, 36, tells Cosmopolitan’s U.K. edition. “I could end up adopting half a dozen kids, or I could end up being the next ‘octomum’ – who fricking knows!”
“I think women are afraid to say that they don’t want children because they’re going to get shunned,” she tells the magazine in its July issue. “But I think that’s changing too now. I have more girlfriends who don’t have kids than those that do. And honestly? We don’t need any more kids. We have plenty of people on this planet.”
As far as men go, there are definitely some qualities she looks for. For starters, she wants a guy “who knows who he is. Someone who understands himself, has already dealt with his issues and who can say, ‘I see where I’ve been foolish before and I’m not going to be like that again.’ ”
The star has been in a relationship with Justin Timberlake prior to being in a relationship with Brit model-actor Paul Sculfor, with whom she has reportedly broken up. “One week I’m with this person, the next were back together. I’m like ‘Who cares who I’m doing?’ ”
One of the biggest influences in her life has been her father, Emilio, who died in April 2008.
