Carrie Underwood had to apologize to Matthew McConaughey and her family for the joke she cracked while accepting the Entertainer of the Year award at the American Country music awards during the past weekend.
She was shocked to hear her name called out, as she became only the 7th woman to get this award. It seems she blacked out and didn’t realize what she was saying. Before presenting Carrie with her award, Matthew McConaughey was telling a story about how he and his brother had made up a story about how they custom make George Strait’s boots in order to pick some girls.
After she got the trophy, a tearful Underwood was almost speechless and said, “I don’t know what to say. I got nothin’ … I want to see those boots, Matthew.” The sexual relevance in the joke made jaws dropped. A mortified Carrie Underwood was later found in the backstage, burying her head in her hands.
“You want to say something eloquent in a moment like that and I embarrassed myself. I’m sorry Matthew, I’m sorry to my family. I’m totally embarrassed.” She admitted to having blacked out after hearing her name called out and said she didn’t remember much between getting up from her seat, taking the award on the stage and going to the press room. If you ask me, I see nothing very out of line in what she blurted out. Matthew’s story is worse than Underwood’s little joke. He should be burying his head somewhere.
