We may never ever hear the music that Michael Jackson was working on at the time of his death.
We find from Jackson collaborators having spoken to Billboard executives that Jackson was working on two very different albums: one in his fame-making pop genre and also a more surprising foray into the instrumental classical vein.
Michael Jackson had worked with composer David Michael Frank back in 1989 on a TV special. About two months ago, he received a call from the star’s assistant about collaborating again.
Recalling being impressed with Jackson’s knowledge of classical music, Frank says: “He had two demos of two pieces he’d written, but they weren’t complete. For one of them, he had a whole section of it done in his head. He had not recorded it. He hummed it to me as I sat at the keyboard in his pool house and we figured out the chords.”
A few weeks ago, Jackson checked in with Frank on his recordings and went on to brainstorm about a possible jazz track. Unfortunately, the world may never hear this music ever.
“I guess this recording I made is the only copy that exists of this music,” muses Frank. “I hope one day his family will decide to record this music as a tribute and show the world the depth of his artistry.”
Tickets for the Jackson Memorial to be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles are being made available in an online lottery.
Organizers of the event are giving out free tickets to 17,500 lucky winners through a lottery. All you have to do is submit your name on the site and names of winners of tickets will be randomly selected from the list. This was announced in a news conference held Friday.
So far, 11,000 tickets have been offered and sold for visiting the Staples Center for the memorial. Another 6,500 tickets have been sold to watch on big screens at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live across the street. Everyone else can watch a live worldwide television feed being provided free to networks or on streaming video on the Web.
Organizers are expected to use the wristband system to crack down on scalpers.
“This is a memorial. I’m hoping that people have dignity. We’re doing our best to accommodate the worldwide demand,” said Tim Leiweke, president and CEO of AEG, which owns the Staples Center. “For those who would try to take advantage of this, shame on them.”
No details of the memorial were released, except that there will be no funeral procession. “It is still being developed,” said Jackson family spokesman Ken Sunshine. He added: “Everything about the memorial has to do with accommodating as many fans as possible. … It is all about the fans.”
On Friday, Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska announced that she is resigning from her current position later this month. So far, she has made no mention of pursuing any other office, but her stepping down as a Governor has given rise to the wild speculation that she may be considering running for the Senate or the Presidency.
“It hurts to make this choice but I’m doing what’s best for Alaska,” she said in speech from the backyard of her Wasilla home with husband Todd and children Piper, Bristol and Willow at her side. “You can effect change from the outside, and I can too.”
One of the reasons she gave for her resignation is that her year-old son Trig, who has Down syndrome, needs her at home more. If she does decide to run for another office, she is certainly going to have to explain how she can leave Trig behind to pursue office.
Palin came into the spotlight when Presidential candidate John McCain chose her as his running mate for the Presidency of the USA.
Palin was widely lampooned on Saturday Night Live and has even locked horns with David Letterman for making off-color jokes about her trip to New York with her 14-year-old daughter Willow.
“We know we can effect positive change outside government,” Palin said. “I know the time when its time to pass the ball for victory. Trust me with this decision.”
“This comes as no surprise,” says UC Santa Cruz professor Geoffrey Dunn, a political analyst who is writing a book about Palin due out later this year.
A fierce custody battle is likely to take place between Debbie Rowe and parents of Michael Jackson. Rowe, mother of two of Jackson’s children, sent word on Thursday that she plans to fight for them in court, and the Jackson family signaling they will fight right back.
Debbie Rowe, the mother of Prince, 12, and Paris, 11, spoke to her former attorney Iris Finsilver, who says, “She is going to be pursuing custody of the children.”
“Frankly, she won’t have to fight for them,” Finsilver says. “She is the children’s biological mother. She loves her children.”
Per Michael Jackson’s will that was made in the year 2002, Katherine Jackson, his mother is named as the guardian of his children in the event of his death. In the event that Katherine is no longer living, the children were supposed to be placed under the guardianship of Diana Ross. Currently, all three of Michael Jackson’s children, including Prince Michael II (Blanket), 7, whose mother is unknown, are in the temporary court-ordered care of Katherine Jackson, 79.
A source close to the Jackson family says they intend to seek permanent custody. “They will fight,” says the source.
Rowe earlier made her position clear July 2 in an interview with a Los Angeles television station, saying, “I want my children.”
“I am stepping up,” she told a reporter for Los Angeles station NBC 4 in a 90-minute phone conversation. “I have to.”
Additionally, Rowe has stated that she is willing to take custody of Blanket to ensure that the tree children are not parted. However, she also plans on getting a court order restraining her father-in-law from meeting the children.
Rihanna has always had an interesting history with tattoos. And, she has always been the one to set trends. Is it any surprise that she would be a trendsetter when it came to tattooing tattoo artists?
But, as it happens, three lucky people got a tattoo from the ‘Umbrella’ singer herself at New York City’s East Side Ink. “She came by to hang out with us and her regular tattoo artist Bang Bang,” says East Side Ink owner Yadira. “He decided he wanted to get a tattoo from her and then two of the other artists decided they wanted to get one as well.”
Riri, as Rihanna is called, tattooed her pal and two other artists with her signature sign. “She tattooed us for a change,” says Yadira. “It’s a little umbrella with a capital “R” underneath it. The second and third had a number two and a number three next to it.”
It is possible that this unique gesture could land Rihanna into legal trouble. According to the NYC Health Department, it is illegal to tattoo without a proper license within city limits. “Only licensed tattoo artists can administer tattoos in the city according to the City’s Health Code,” says spokesperson Erin Brady.
However, Yadria says what it’s only illegal if she is making a profit. And as for Rihanna facing any legal drama, an NYPD spokeswoman says, “Someone would have to make a complaint. There’s been none that we know of.”
Well, it is highly unlikely that any complaint will be lodged in this case!
It has just been confirmed that Katie Holmes will be appearing on So You Think You Can Dance as part of celebrations for the show’s 100th episode, which will be aired on July 23. She will appear in a song and dance tribute to Judy Garland.
Rumors of this appearance hit the web when Katie was captured on film in dance gear at the CBS studio in LA. “She absolutely adores dancing as does her daughter,” according to executive producer Nigel Lythgoe. He also claimed that both Katie and her daughter Suri, 3, have been visiting the show’s dress rehearsals for a couple of years now.
Recently, Holmes has been rehearsing herself, sometimes until 11:30 p.m. — with breaks to be with Suri, Lythgoe says. The rehearsals are taking place on a New York street scene designed for the number. The set has been lit by famed cinematographer Dion Beebe, while the direction and choreography is done by Tyce Diorio.
Inspired by Garland’s song “Get Happy” from the 1950s musical Summer Stock, Holmes will wear “the jacket, the little hat,” Lythgoe says. “It’s just an iconic look. And Katie Holmes has got the legs. Wow!”
Husband Tom Cruise has often been at hand to show support for Katie. “It was great to see the sort of family bond,” Lythgoe says. “It was beautiful to see!”
Adds Lythgoe: “It was the pride in Tom’s eyes, which I liked. I think we all stood around and felt very proud.”
Hayden Panettiere is not shy and is ready to show it all.
“If I can’t flaunt it at 20, come on!”, said Panettiere. She is promoting her new film I Love You, Beth Cooper . Its hit theatres on July 10. “I mean I might as well show it now” she added.
Panettiere plays unattainable Beth Cooper in the movie along with a high school cheerleader and the object of dorky Denis Cooverman’s affection, played by Paul Rust. She also drops her towel in one of the locker room scenes.
“It didn’t bother me much,” she said when discussing the shoot. “I think when the person who’s doing it gets all uncomfortable and shy, then it’s other people around who get more uncomfortable because they’re uncomfortable. I mean I was fine – everyone was really professional.”
She says she still struggles with a few issues with her appearance. “The older I get, the more comfortable I get with it,” she added, “but I still have my days where I don’t feel great … and I’m having my fat day where I have to put something baggy on and sweatpants. Or just with the way people perceive me. I have plenty of insecurities.”
“I have the body that I have and that’s not going to change,” she said. “I try to stay as healthy as I can.” She also mentioned that she tries her best to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
She is now all set for the season four of Heroes.
Ryan and Redmond O’Neal were present with Farrah Fawcett’s closest friends for her private funeral on Tuesday afternoon. The ceremony was conducted at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles.
There were around 200 guests attending the hour-long Catholic service. The guests included Fawcett’s Charlie’s Angels costar Kate Jackson, Marla Maples, Joan Collins and Tatum O’Neal.
Farrah’s long time pal Alana Stewart and her doctor delivered the eulogies. “Goodbye sweet girl,” said Stewart. “ never felt sorry for herself during her illness … she fought cancer furiously.”
“She’s the most beautiful angel in heaven,” Stewart added. “She always seemed so indestructible.”
The American actress died of cancer at the age of 62. City police and private security lined up the streets at the funeral. A hearse drove up just a few minutes before the funeral began. Ryan and son Redmond served as pallbearers carrying Fawcett’s casket. This was full of yellow and orange flowers.
“Amazing Grace” was played on a bagpipe at the beginning of the funeral service. This also included a few Bible readings and prayer.
Lisa Fawcett, the actress’s cousin told PEOPLE “The funeral was really just beautiful and so sweet.” “everyone just embraced ,” she said at a special moment during the service. Her son Redmond is 24 years old. He’s been in jail and was allowed to leave jail and attend the ceremony.
Vans shuttled guests to the reception at the Jonathan Club after the service concluded. A band played Fawcette’s favorite songs.
Michael Jackson’s sudden death has left his parents reeling. He seemed to be fit and fine, and in fact, was working on making a comeback with a tour, when a sudden cardiac arrest stole his life at the age of only 50 years. Joe and Katherine Jackson are finding it difficult to cope with the ‘suddenness’ of their son’s death.
Reverend Jesse Jackson, who is a close friend of the family said, “Katherine and Joe are strong but they are grieving. Michael is the first loss of any of their children, which compounds it. They are grieving over the suddenness of the loss of Michael. It was so sudden. And I say ’sudden’ because he had passed his health test; he was rehearsing every day for his UK concerts and was in full training for the big tour. The tour was sold out.”
He adds, “There was a real joy with Michael in recent months. So there is real grief now. He was at the top of his art. He was the best who ever did it.”
Michael’s father recently released a statement on behalf of the family. “In one of the darkest moments of our lives we find it hard to find the words appropriate to this sudden tragedy we all had to encounter. Our beloved son, brother and father of three children has gone so unexpectedly, in such a tragic way and much too soon. It leaves us, his family, speechless and devastated to a point, where communication with the outside world seems almost impossible at times.
