Debbie Reynolds- The Collector

Debbie Reynolds starred in newly re-released films and had a chat with Parade Magazine and told them about her collection of movie props and costumes. She talked about classic and modern cinema and explained how much of a movie buff she was.

Among her collection is Marilyn Monroe’s white subway dress from The Seven Year Itch and  Judy Garland’s red slippers worn in The Wizard of Oz. She also has the wizard’s costume. She bought it because she loved the film. She also bought holly dolly’s costume worn by Barbara Streisand. She told the magazine that she has over 5000 dresses. You say she should start a museum? Well, she plans to in Tennessee. She’s going to call it the Hollywood Motion Pictures Museum.

She said she started collecting after she felt that the studios didn’t have any regard for preserving the memorabilia and were only bent on making money. She has stuff worth quite a lot of money and if she ever sells it she can make a huge fortune out of it. About her film choices she says she prefers comedy over drama and also likes romantic movies.

When asked how she keeps up with the modern cinema since she is a classic film lover, she said her daughter, who lives close to her, recommends movies to her. And since she travels a lot, 40 weeks a year, she watches a lot of movies when she is on the road. We can say she has an interesting life.
