Jade Goody Loses Battle against Cancer
British reality TV Star, Jade Goody, who fought a public battle against cancer, has finally succumbed to the disease. She died in her sleep early Sunday – Mother’s Day in the U.K. Max Clifford, her publicist and friend, confirmed the news. “She had been pretty much asleep for the last 24 hours,” he says, adding she died “just before 4 o’clock this morning.”
Her husband Jack Tweed and mother Jackiey Budden were at her bedside when she finally passed away, Clifford adds. Clifford says Budden told him, “My beautiful daughter has gone to sleep, has gone.” He adds, “Jackiey is obviously as you would expect a mom to be at the loss of her daughter. We’ve all known it was coming but she’s devastated.”
Goody came into the public eye on the British version of the reality show Big Brother in 2002. In course of the India version of the show, she discovered that she had cervical cancer and the whole world took interest in her story. Then, in February, she learned that the disease had spread and she only had a short time to live. Since then, her achievement has been to raise awareness of her cancer and how prevention could help others, Clifford said.
