Readers are advised to think twice before answering their phone. It is just possible that you may find Justin Timberlake challenging you to complete some missions in order to win a large prize.
On The Phone, the new MTV reality show that Timberlake is executive producing – premiering Tuesday at 10 p.m. – contestants accept a challenge via cell phone to complete several high-stakes missions for clues that will ultimately lead them to a $50,000 prize.
“We take four people and put them through a game of hell, basically,” Timberlake, 28, says. “We make them characters in an action film. We constantly throw a curve ball.”
So, how bizarre do you think the show is? Well for starters, in the very first episode, as a female contestant accepts the challenge by pressing 1 on her phone, a nearby car blows up into smithereens.
Timberlake admits that the show is based on a similar show created and aired in Holland. However, he contests “our version is that show on acid.” He participated in the early development of the six-episode series. “I helped format the show and come up with ideas to constantly up the stakes on the contestants. But I have such a great team that put together the ins and outs of the show.”
Beware of the show, unless you really crave high voltage excitement. One of the missions on the show includes climbing to the top of Seattle’s Space Needle.
