
Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard have officially announced their nuptials. The long time couple and parents of a daughter, they finally made it official by announcing that they recently exchanged vows in a romantic wedding in Italy.
“We are happy to confirm that Maggie and Peter were married on Saturday, May 2,” the actress’s rep said in a statement.
According to European news reports, the nuptials took place in a small chapel in Brindisi. Celebrities like Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon were seen mingling in the intimate circle of guests.
In March, Gyllenhaal had openly celebrated her impending nuptials with a bridal shower attended by many intimate friends, including Witherspoon, a source confirms.
Gyllenhaal, 31, and Sarsgaard, 38, are parents to daughter Ramona, 2 ½. Their pregnancy as well as engagement was first announced in 2006, by which time the couple had already been together for 4 years.
The pair has costarred in one film- 2003′s In God’s Hands, a low-budget feature produced by Steven Soderbergh.
Gyllenhaal first made her name in the 2002 indie movie Secretary. She has recently starred in the blockbuster The Dark Knight. It is well known that she replaced Katie Holmes in the role of Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight.
Sarsgaard is known for his role in films such as Kinsey, Jarhead (with his wife’s brother, Jake) and Shattered Glass. For the last role, he earned a Golden Globe nomination in 2004.
This is the second high profile wedding to take place in Italy. On April 25, Salma Hayek married French mogul François-Henri Pinault in Venice.
