With the arrival of springtime, Michelle Obama has planted her kitchen garden in the White house. And the fruits and vegetables grown in this garden will probably be served to the state heads. Now that’s a privileged garden. Twenty five students from the Bancroft Elementary School helped her plant lettuce, dill, oregano, rosemary, onions, shallots, cucumbers, peppers and peas.

She planted the first fruit and vegetable seeds in the White House garden, wearing her brown gloves. She also told the students from the Bancroft Elementary School how everyone was interested in her garden. She said, “One thing I want to let you know – I don’t know if you were paying attention, but the President and I, we went on this long trip. We were in many, many countries – we were in Europe. And the number one question I got as the First Lady from world leaders – they were all excited about this garden.”

The children helping her guessed that the garden would cost over $ 100.000 and a surprised Michelle explained to the students that it didn’t cost her more than $ 200  and it would yield a lot of stuff.

This is something new for a First Lady to do. We haven’t had many first ladies who are ready to get their knees and hands dirty with gardening. The Secret Service will have one less thing to do, as they can be sure the veggies grown in this garden aren’t poisoned.
