The entire block that Rubina used to live in was razed down on Wednesday to make way for a pedestrian overpass and last week the other actor Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail’s house was demolished, as a part of the pre monsoon slum clearance drive.
Rubina and her parents have moved to her uncle’s house who allegedly tried to sell her and Azhar is living under a tarpaulin in a slum by name Garib Nagar. Things have been worse than ever for the two actors who were shown glamour for a short while before getting thrown back into poverty that they have seen all their life.
Rubina got hospitalized for a little while when she came down with fever on Friday. She later said she was feeling better but was a little tires and she is now living in her uncle’s house.
They were promised safe homes, a decent education and a nest egg when they finished high school and the family says nothing has materialized and the Jai Ho trust seems to be doing nothing.
The Jai Ho trust members say they are looking for homes and will finalize things as soon as possible. They said that they had taken Azhar’s family to look at a couple of houses last week. City authorities have also promised the slum dwellers new homes and said things were slow as they were busy with the elections. Most of the times these promises amount to nothing and even when they are accommodated, they will be given poor quality houses which are far away from any of the jobs they can go to.
