Just 1 day just after verifying his separation from Heidi Klum, Seal talked at length about the “tremendous admiration, respect, and love” they keep for each other– and why he is not going to stop wearing his wedding ring.
The singer taped a section on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Monday and got emotive concerning his better half of seven years.
“I am still wearing my ring. I think it’s just pretty much a token of how I feel about this woman. We have eight years. Eight wonderful years together,” he said (via Us magazine). “Just because we have decided to separate doesn’t necessarily mean you take off your ring and you’re no longer connected to that person.”
Seal implied that the supermodel is still putting on her wedding hardware, too. “Will we wear the
rings for the rest of our lives? Who knows?” he reflected. “But right now it feels really comfortable on my hand, so I have no intention of taking it off anytime soon.”
It sounds like the feelings between the couple are complicated. Perhaps it’s one of those, “We love each other but aren’t IN love anymore” type things. He explained: “Heidi has given me four incredible gifts: four beautiful children. She still, in my opinion, is the most wonderful woman in the world. I think our priority was to remain civil and do this thing with dignity. We still very much love each other.”
The interview with Ellen was typically tear-jerking and honest, with no any straightforward talk about logistics: child custody, alimony, all the nitty-gritty stuff. But, he did state they’re being very level-headed about the separation. “What one has to do in this situation is remain civil and to retain one’s dignity and to be professional and to understand that we are not the only people on this planet that go through this,” he told Tavis Smiley in an interview with PBS, also held on Monday. “It is just unfortunately a chapter of life .”
It looks like Klum might just be the one moving forward with the legal representatives and paperwork. She’s reportedly planning to file for the divorce and TMZ reports she’s already been shopping around L.A. for counsel. No word yet on when she ‘ll actually pull the plug on the relationship.
The “Kiss from a Rose ” singer and model have three biological children together and Seal adopted Klum’s daughter Leni in 2009.
