Michelle Obama to Adorn Vogue Cover

Michelle Obama is not far behind Barack Obama in making history. She is going to be only the second US First Lady to appear on the cover of Vogue. While Vogue has covered all US First Ladies since Herbert Hoover’s wife, Lou, in 1929, only one First Lady has ever appeared on its cover. Hillary Clinton was the one and only First Lady featured on the cover, in Dec. 1998, so far.
The new First lady was photographed by the famed photographer Annie Leibovitz at the Hay-Adams Hotel. This was the hotel where the Obamas had stayed before the Inauguration. Michele Obama is seen wearing a magenta dress designed by Jason Wu, who also designed her gown for the Inauguration ceremony. Also, she is photographed in a black dress by designer Narciso Rodriguez. She will appear on the cover of the March issue which will hit the stands this Wednesday.
To the question why she chose to place Michele Obama on the cover of Vogue, the magazine’s editor Anna Wintour says, “Change was the clarion call of Barack Obama’s election campaign, though I don’t think any of us at Vogue initially realized that would include the difference that was going to be made by First Lady Michelle Obama’s wardrobe … It’s inspiring to see our first lady so serene and secure in her personal style.”
In the interview, Michele talks about getting used to living in Washington and about how she wants to play an active part in her daughter’s education and school.
