Dakota Fanning has played muse to fashion designer Marc Jacobs for several years now, landing her very first modeling campaign for his brand in 2006.

Fanning, who covers the latest issue of W magazine with her more youthful sister Elle, explained of the encounter, “I was 12. I was always into fashion because my mom has always been interested in fashion. She majored in fashion merchandising in college, and it’s always been something we have in common. When I did that first campaign for Marc Jacobs, I wasn’t really old enough to wear the clothes. He made all the clothes from the runway in my size.”

An intriguing admission certainly from a lady whose campaigns nevertheless confirm controversial. Previously this month, the British Advertising Standards Authority selected to ban Fanning’s advertisement for Marc Jacobs’ new perfume Oh, Lola! Over the suggestiveness of her pose (with a huge flower bottle balanced between her thighs).

But Fanning’s Spring/Summer 2007 campaign for Marc Jacobs was far tamer fare—she just looked like a small lady wandering all around in her mother’s clothing. Which sells, evidently.

After weeks of speculation, petitions and debates if Dakota Fanning would be a perfect fit to join the cast of “New Moon”, Summit Entertainment has announced that Fanning will indeed be playing a vampire on the 2nd film of the Twilight Saga.

The 15-year-old actress will play Jane, a member of the evil Volturi coven of vampires. In the Meyer books, Jane has the power to manipulate a person’s mind, making them believe they are in excruciating pain.

At the premiere of Dakota’s latest movie “Push,” Entertainment Weekly asked her about the New Moon role, wherein she responded “I am a very big fan of the books. I read them all and Jane is an interesting part.”

Filming of ‘New Moon’ will start at end of March in Vancouver. It will be released in theaters in November. The film will be directed by Chris Weitz.
