The End is Nigh for Fern

With rumours rife that ITV are looking to oust robust presenter Fern Britton from the premier daytime show This Morning, popular host Davina McCall’s name has come up as a possible replacement.  McCall recently admitted she was considering quitting Big Brother, the reality television program she has fronted for ten years.   The idea of hosting  the top rated daytime show would be a step in the right direction.

Several other names have been linked with the post but as yet nothing has been confirmed.  Former Big Breakfast star Gaby Roslin, Jenny Powell and even Anthea Turner have also been touted as a possible replacements but none were unavailable for comment yesterday.

Britton and fellow host Phillip Schofield took over the show in the early nineties after Judy Finegan and Richard Madely were sensationally axed.  Producers feared a viewer backlash so quickly installed the popular newsreader alongside children’s favourite Schofield.  At their peak the pair attracted viewers of over eight million, far surpassing any of the competition.  There has been problems along the way, Britton especially faced criticism over “the gastric band” incident last year when she was promoting dieting.

Since that incident Britton has believed to have been walking on thin ice.  However since she stated recently that she was looking to take time off for the first time in twenty years this was seen as the green light for the shows producers to look for a replacement.

It was hinted that Schofield might be ditched as well.  This now seems unlikely as it is widely thought that due to the presenters popularity the show might not recover from two significant losses.
