An unauthorized biography on Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, Trailblazer: An Intimate Biography of Sarah Palin, by PEOPLE Assistant Editor Lorenzo Benet is being released and is said to uncover a number of little know facts about her life including why she kept her pregnancy with Trig a secret from her family. Trig is the Alaska Governor’s youngest son and is a special needs child suffering from Down syndrome.
According to sources, Palin kept her pregnancy secret from her daughter until her pregnancy was accidentally discovered when one of her daughters found prenatal ultrasound scan of the unborn child and confronted Palin with the picture. “Sarah made one slip-up – but [she] dampened suspicion by explaining it away.” “Not discussing the pregnancy with her daughters, she felt, would shorten the process and spare them from unwanted attention,” was the explanation provided by one of the sources in the book.
On the other hand, Palin also did not divulge to her daughters the fact that Trig was expected to be a special needs child until after his birth on April 18 last year. “Not knowing in my own heart if I was going to be ready to embrace a child with special needs – I couldn’t talk about it,” Palin had said to explain this when she and her family were being interviewed by Benet for a 2008 PEOPLE cover story.
According to Benet, sources that have contributed to the book include Palin’s parents, Chuck and Sally Heath; the governor’s older sister, Heather Bruce; as well as in-laws, political allies and rivals.
